Do-It-Yourself Grim Reaper Halloween Costume

Nothing sends a chill down our spine faster than seeing the Grim Reaper approach. Just think, with a few cheap items, you can transform yourself into everyone’s least favorite houseguest. This is a classic Halloween costume if there ever was one.

Items you will need:

Black hooded cape
White face makeup or mask
Black grease paint stick
Scythe or other pointy weapon

All you need is a hooded cape that covers all. We recommend adding a mask that is scare-worthy. Another option is to paint your face white and add creepy skeletal detail in gray or black. It’s really that simple, but wait! No Grim Reaper Halloween costume would be complete without its scythe. Any plastic weapon will do in a pinch. Just remember you won’t be the most popular ghoul or boy at the party, but that’s what alcohol is for.

Frightening Fact:
The Grim Reaper is Death in a living form. The idea of Death as an actual entity has existed in all known societies since the beginnings of recorded history.

Alcoholic Punch Recipe

Alcoholic Halloween Punch Recipe

Trust me, this one is definitely NOT for the kiddies! I serve it every year and it pretty much lays waste to the party, but in a good way, of course!! Be forewarned that it’s very very smooth and tasty and you don’t realize how drunk you are until it’s too late. Collect keys beforehand :)

Ingredients you will need:

1 fifth of Everclear
1 fifth of Vodka
1 gallon of Sunny D (I prefer the Smooth version)
2 gallons of Lemon-Lime Gatorade
Lots of ice

I mix this all together in a large cooler with a spigot. Within the hour, voila – instant par-tay!!

Do-It-Yourself Grandpa Munster Halloween Costume

Grandpa Munster is so popular he even tried to run for public office! We don’t know about his politics, but a Grandpa Munster Halloween costume has definitely got our vote!

Items you will need:

Black hair with gray highlights on the sides
Green face makeup or body paint
Gray face makeup
A black cape
A white button-down shirt
Black trousers
Red ribbon with gold medal
White vest
Black socks
Black shoes
Black gloves
Vampire teeth
Pointy ears
Props: A beaker with mystery liquid (preferably green)

Grandpa Munster always has a magic potion or spell up his sleeve! You can make Halloween fun up your sleeve in just a few easy steps. First of all, dress to the nines. Grandpa Munster always looked very dapper in dark trousers and a white button-down shirt with a white vest, his gold medal hanging around his neck by a wide red ribbon and, of course, his long, flowing black cape with the collar turned up. Grandpa always wore black leather gloves, but you will still need to paint your face and pointy ears green. If you have dark hair, slick it back and add gray coloring to the sides. If not, you can achieve the same look with a wig. Use the gray makeup to add gray to your sideburns. Also, use it to make your eyebrows big, gray and bushy. For added effect, carry a beaker with some mysterious green liquid inside. Welcome home, Grandpa Munster. We love The Munsters!

ladies batty!

Frightening Fact:
Grandpa wasn’t Grandpa Munster. He was Lily’s father, and their family name was “Dracula”. And just to keep the name game going, Grandpa had a bat named Igor.

Do-It-Yourself Gomez Addams Halloween Costume

He’s ooky and he’s spooky. He’s also incredibly stylish. That’s why Gomez Addams remains one of our favorite characters. As a Halloween costume idea, Gomez Addams is simple.

Items you will need:

A dark suit (preferably pin-striped)
Dark moustache
Cigar
Fake money
Hand
Sword (optional)

The key to Gomez Addams is style. He always wore the dashing dark suit — usually pinstriped. He had the look of the continental with that dark moustache and the ever-present cigar. Slick your hair back and, if necessary, add something to darken it so that it matches the dark moustache. Of course, no Gomez would be complete without the lovely and deadly Morticia by his side. If you must do without Morticia (buck up, soldier!) we recommend carrying lots of fake money (Gomez is wealthy and he loves to flaunt that) and a hand that can serve as Thing, the Addams Family’s loyal friend.

Frightening Fact:
“The Addams Family” premiered on Sept. 18, 1964. John Astin played Gomez Addams, a wealthy lawyer who lived with his creepy, crawly relatives at the big house at 000 Cemetery Lane. For two seasons viewers delighted in the reactions of visitors to the house, which had a swordfish mounted on the wall with a human leg in its mouth.

Do-It-Yourself Ghostbuster Halloween Costume

When you need a Halloween costume quick, who you gonna be? A Ghostbuster!

Items you will need:

A blue or gray jumpsuit (like mechanics wear)
A Supersoaker watergun
A backpack
Masking tape
The Ghostbusters symbol (drawn on paper or printed as a sticker)
Tennis shoes

Being a Ghostbuster is all about the equipment. You’ll need one of those cool ghost-trapping guns. Use a length of tubing to attach your big watergun to the backpack. This is your weaponry. Now put on your jumpsuit. Create for yourself a Ghostbusters patch that you wear on your uniform. Put on the backpack and hold your gun at the ready. You are now ready to take on Gozer and the rest of his unearthly minions.

Frightening Fact:
The role of Louis Tully was originally written for John Candy. The role of Peter Venkman was originally written for John Belushi. The role of Winston was originally written for Eddie Murphy. Gozer was originally going to be played by Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman). In the original script, Gozer appeared as a normal man in a business suit.

Ghost Halloween Costume

Do-It-Yourself Ghost Halloween Costume

A Halloween classic if there ever was one. Ghosts are not the undead, but are spirits of the dead. Therefore, it’s important to remember lack of color is important to pull off this costume. A spooky cackle is also necessary. Boohahaha!

Items you will need:

White clothing & shoes
A woman’s thin poly or nylon robe (in white)
White gauze
White face makeup or mask
Black grease paint stick
Long, white wig
Bells or something jangly and noisy (or a tambourine if you want to be an ABBA ghost!)

You can either glue, wrap or velcro strips of gauze to hang from your clothes. The look you are trying to achieve is tattered clothing. Apply white make-up all over your face and use the black grease paint to add definition (apply it lightly, so it’s more gray than black). A long, white wig tops it off. Small bells add a nice, gothic ghost touch to the costume.

Frightening Fact:
One in every six Americans believes they have seen, heard, or felt a spirit at least once in their lifetime.
