Do-It-Yourself Adult Harry Potter Halloween Costume
You won’t need magic to pull an Adult Harry Potter Halloween costume out of your sorting hat. It’s as simple as gathering a few staples together. This costume works for Hermione or Ron as well - just make sure to have the appropriate wigs - wavy for Hermione and red for Ron.
Items you will need:
Messy dark hair or a dark-haired wig
Black robe or hoodless cape (a dark v-neck sweater works too)
White button-down shirt
Red and yellow tie
Dark slacks
Scar kit or red greasepaint stick
Broomstick
Black round-rimmed glasses
Black shoes and socks
Wand
Dress as if you’re heading off to a boarding school on the East Coast . . . Choate, Riverdale or, why not, Hogwarts?? Once you’re dressed, put on your glasses and you should pass for Harry Potter. If you don’t have dark hair, go for a wig. Don’t forget something very important - a lightning bolt shaped scar on your forehead. We suggest carrying your wand (don’t be dirty), your broomstick (don’t be dirty) or a toy white owl to complete the look. If the scar starts to bother you, perhaps He Who Must Not Be Named is around. Or maybe you’re just drunk.
Frightening Fact:
Steven Spielberg was offered the position as director of the first Harry Potter film, but was later refused when he couldn’t agree with JK Rowling’s insistence on an all-British cast. He wanted to use Haley Joel Osment for the part of Harry. Let’s face it, that would have sucked. SO bad!
