Can your Tiger Crane defeat Pai Mei’s Eagle Claw? Probably not, so it’s best to dress up as Pai Mei this Halloween and just KNOW that you can easily beat everyone at the party.
Items you will need:
White robe
Length of black fabric to drape over your shoulders
(almost as long as the robe)
White pajama pants
Black ballet slippers
Two long white wigs
Spirit gum
Surgical tape (available at drug stores)
Two long white tassles (or cheat and use gauze)
This costume is a little tough, but it will work and keep you from having to sew it from scratch. Put on the robe, pajama pants and shoes, then drape the black cloth over your shoulders. The trickiest part of this costume is actually the beard and the hair. Because most beards you buy are too thick and short, we suggest you take an additional wig and cut some strands to make your moustache. To keep the strands together, glue them to a piece of surgical tape (the non-sticky side), then use spirit gum to attach to tape (sticky side) to your upper lip. You can try the same thing with the beard - and this WILL take some practice. If you don’t think you can do it, you might have luck finding a ready-made beard that you can use.
For Pai Mei’s hair, take a section of it at the top and put a rubber band around it so essentially it creates a ball at the top of your head. Don’t forget to flip or play with your beard during the night. After all, you are no doubt contemplating who to attack with the Five-Point Palm exploding heart technique.
Frightening Fact:
The character Pai Mei appears in several Shaw Brothers Kung Fu films from the 1970s-80s including “Hung Wen Tin San Po Pai Lien Chiao” (1980). Pai Mei means “White Eyebrow”.
