12-inch Deluxe Alien Action Figure
Here is the fearsome Xenomorph in all its horrible glory. McFarlane Toys has devoted another series of Movie Maniacs to Alien vs. Predator. This is the first 12-inch scale Alien deluxe action figure from McFarlane. Ellen Ripley and friends fought hard to keep this creature off their ship. Now you can own it for your home! And don’t forget to check out Socreepy’s summary of one of my favorite horror movies - you guessed it, ALIEN!!

Alien 12

Frightening Fact:
The Alien’s life cycle, which involves laying eggs in the stomach (from which the hatchling alien will later burst out) was inspired by the spider wasp, which lays its eggs in the abdomen of spiders. This image gave the screenplay writer such nightmares that he included the concept in Alien.

Horror Collectibles

I’ll be writing soon enough about the standard horror collectibles. However, what I consider “horror collectibles” don’t necessarily need to be from movies or famous figures. Socreepy thinks that other things such as hearses, coffins, skulls and those kinds of things are also worth collecting. However, I’m not necessarily a fan of REAL skull collecting.

If you’re a little into the morbid and fascinated with our inevitable demise, you should really start collecting some unique items or at least pick up an odd hobby or two. Consider the “Do-It-Yourself Embalming Kit” or our personal favorite, the “Do-It-Yourself Coffins” - it’s a book that offers step-by-step instruction to build either human or pet coffins. Along with the embalming kit, pick up the graphic, instructional video of an actual embalming. Knowledge like that makes great cocktail party banter. I promise!

Scouring the web in pursuit of dark visions is part of the fun for socreepy. I’m endlessly fascinated how someone can take another’s “art” and turn it into something a thousand times better. We all know dolls and mannequins are creepy in their own right, but I found a couple sweetly twisted minds that have managed to capitalize on that - to our benefit.

The Living Dead Dolls were probably the first I ever found and yeah, I thought it was a pretty amusing idea. Twist dolls into something that aren’t exactly playthings, but more about what you fear is under your bed when you try and sleep at night. Living Dead Dolls founders have managed to get these babies into the mass market - mostly I see them at Spencer’s and the goth kids love ‘em.

I prefer something a little more sinister than cute and eventually I found Krypt Kiddies“. I liked these better because they’re definitely demonic and well-crafted. Plus, they take advantage of an existing, discarded doll that someone probably loved very much at one time. It also amused me how some of them were based on characters like Pinhead or a serial killer like Gacy - scary clown/serial killer/doll all in one? That’s just f’ing BRILLIANT!! I thought I’d hit paydirt with the Krypt Kiddies (and let’s face it, they TOTALLY rock!)…until last night.

Last night I found the best horror collectible yet. Move your gnarly fingers as fast as you can type and look at Autopsy Babies. This takes it to an entirely different level, say level seven of Dante’s Inferno. Autopsy Babies are brilliant, artistic, disturbing, creepy and . . . I MUST have one!!! Seriously, I’m very taken with the workmanship of the dolls, the site and the photos. Fantastic effort all around and feel free to tell creators Jeremi and Nicole that you’d pierce yourself a hundred times over just to get one of these. As far as the people that are disturbed by them, how the F@CK did they get to the site in the first place?? Don’t like it? Then don’t look. End of story.
