Horror

thewomanimal modeling her custom clothesIf you are a regular visitor to this site then you’ll know how much we love Fright Rags horror t-shirts. I have spent way too much money on their merch. Being a guy however, something I’ve never thought about is that not many of their shirts are sized for women. They do have some babydoll tees, but not all ladies like wearing those. Plus you women like things “pretty” right? Some boring guys t-shirt just won’t do. Rebecca, otherwise known as “thewomanimal” on Etsy is here to help.

Rebecca takes the awesome shirts from Fright Rags and adds things like lace, hoods, straps and ties. She takes normal boring t-shirts and turns them into customized clothing for women. She’ll take a Pinhead shirt and turn it into a custom dress. Or she’ll take your favorite death metal band tee and turn it into a tank-top.

Here’s what Rebecca said about how she started:

I started cutting up guys’ shirts and modifying them to fit me almost 15 years ago because I was frustrated that none of the bands I liked made shirts for girls. Even if they did, the designs on guys shirts were always so much better, and I hate babydoll t shirts! Several years ago I was on a kick of making hoodies out of long-sleeved shirts that had designs on the arms, and I got so many compliments that I decided to try and sell them, and etsy seemed like the perfect marketplace. Since then, I’ve branched out from hoodies to make all kinds of girly stuff out of heavy metal and horror shirts. A lot of my time on etsy these days is spent doing custom work, which I love! At almost six feet tall, I understand that basic sizes small through extra large don’t cover all body types, and I’m so happy to be able to help girls have an item of clothing that is the perfect fit for them.

Considering she is supplying the t-shirt and the customization, her prices are pretty fair too. She also has no problem doing custom work on shirts provided by her customers. So if you are looking for an excellent gift for yourself or that horror loving lady friend in your life, head on over to Etsy and pick up some of Rebecca’s shirts.

Kittiwat Unarrom – The Body Part Bakery

I sure wish we had a bakery around here that was this freakin cool! Food artist Kittiwat Unarrom creates realistic body parts from bread and sells them in his shop/gallery. The fun part is he adds a horrific touch to his creations. Check out some more awesome pics at Shape+Colour

Human Centipede II Banned In Britain

Human Centipede coverThe fine fellas over at Ain’t It Cool News have an interesting tid bit posted about Human Centipede II. Apparently the BBFC, British Board of Film Classification, has banned the film. Which means the film can not be publicly distributed. Not that Human Centipede is remotely on the same caliber, but it has some company on the ban list. Apparently the BBFC has banned such classics as A Clockwork Orange, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Monty Python’s The Life Of Brian. Check out the whole article (with some mild Human Centipede II spoilers) over at AICN.

Zombie Proof House

We all know the zombie apocalypse will happen one day. If I were a billionaire I would definitely have a house like this to be prepared for it. The whole building locks down into a fortress. Check it out!

Dead Island video game footage

Posted on youtube is 20 minutes of in-game footage of the upcoming zombie game Dead Island. The trailer was awesome and this footage, most likely a beta test version, shows that the game looks like it’s shaping up to be pretty damn cool. The developers have said they are going for realism. You play as normal people, which means less Resident Evil guns blazing and much more melee type weapons and attacks. You have to find food, money and gear. So it’s not for the “run-n-gun” crowd. More for the RPG types. I’m looking forward to playing it.

Charlie Bit My Finger – The Horror

I ran across this well made short film today. Based from the viral video “Charlie Bit My Finger”, where an infant bites the finger of his older brother, Jeff Chan made that premise into a short horror film. The results are excellent.

In space no one can hear you scream – the work of H.R. Giger

I’ve had a lifelong love of horror and even now, I’ll never forget the first time I saw “Alien” in the theater. It had just opened (1979) and I talked my dad into letting me see it, though I was way too young! Intensive scares aside, no one had ever seen anything visually like it before – combining technology with organic forms. The look of Alien has now been repeated many, many times over but the visuals saturated my brain from that moment on. The man responsible for brain-fucking me then (and still today) is Swiss artist H.R. Giger. He also won an Academy Award for his work on that film. He is a perfectionist so he wasn’t exactly happy with the outcome of “Alien”, but it seriously rocked my world.

Giger would go on to work with Hollywood a few more times, but those projects never worked in Giger’s favor. I would have loved to see David Lynch bring Giger’s pre-production work to the screen in “Dune” but Lynch chose to use his own designs. Giger also designed Sil for “Species”, which wouldn’t surprise any of his fans.

Over and over his themes feature women, sexuality, alienation and some might say fear. I could write the longest blog post ever on Giger’s work and his technique, but I just wanted to touch on what he did for horror and sci-fi through his work on “Alien”.

Below are some interesting clips related to Giger’s work, including a tour of one of his bars in Switzerland. Who’s ready for a roadtrip?!?
